Description

Driver John Wheeler was born in Merton, England on October 14, 1869 and arrived in Canada in 1890.

Wheeler enlisted in Collingwood, Ontario on January 10, 1916 with the 157th Battalion (Simcoe Foresters) and sailed to England in October of 1916 aboard the SS Cameronia.  In England he joined the 125th Battalion and served in France with the 11th Battalion Canadian Engineers.  Wheeler returned to Canada at the end of the war and was demobilized in Toronto, Ontario on June 16, 1919.

[Editor’s note: According to the 1911 census, Wheeler was born in 1869, but when he enlisted he used 1876 so that he would not be overage.]
